In 2020, I traded city lights for a quieter life in the deep woods with my partner, David. Like many of you, I was drawn back to the skills and rhythms of my grandparents’ generation—gardening, canning, sewing, woodworking, and finding ways to live more independently and in tune with nature.

As the pandemic faded from view, most of my friends were eager to return to the hustle and bustle.

But I just couldn’t do it! The peace and quiet, access to miles of trails and logging roads outside our back door, daily encounters with wildlife, and knowing I could take care of myself when 💩 hit the fan — and therefore, others too — brought a kind of peace I’d never felt before.

Before we knew it, what started as a way to pass the time had become a way of life.

I’m not exactly a “prepper,” but I like to be prepared 😉.
